Young Georgian chess players are successfully continuing the country’s long-rooted tradition in the intellectual game.
Aspiring chess player Nino Khomeriki was crowned the new female European youth champion after scoring top points at a tournament earlier this week.
The girls' championship involved young chess players aged 8-18 and took place in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
Khomeriki, 18, scored 7.5 points out of nine on her tour, which was higher than any of her rivals and with it she became European champion for the second consecutive year.
Georgia is one of the strongest chess nation in the world. In 2015, Georgia’s national female chess team became World Champions.
