Georgia appoints new ambassadors to five foreign states

Georgia has appointed four new ambassadors to represent Georgia in five foreign nations.

The new Georgian Ambassadors will serve in Armenia, Egypt and India while another will jointly serve Sweden and Finland.

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili approved the new ambassadors yesterday and met them in person today so he could get their views on major diplomatic topics and their future intentions. 

Georgia’s new ambassadors are: 

  • Armenia: Giorgi Saganelidze – He started working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in 1998.  From 2005-2008 and 2013-2015 Saganelidze served as Georgia's Ambassador to Armenia;
  • Egypt: Aleksandre Nalbandov – He was Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister from 2008 -2011. From March 2011 to May 2014 Nalbandov served as Georgia’s Ambassador to Slovakia and Slovenia, and from May 2014 to April 2016 Nalbandov was Georgia’s Ambassador to Slovakia; 
  • India: Archil Dzuliashvili – He started working in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in 1995 and since then he has held several high-ranking positions within the Ministry. From January 2011 to January 2016 he served as Georgia’s Ambassador to Egypt;
  • Sweden and Finland: Malkhaz Kakabadze – He was Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister from 1990 to 1998. In 2000 he was appointed as Georgia’s Ambassador to Russia and in 2004 he was appointed as a Minister of Special Affairs of Georgia. Kakabadze was first granted the right of diplomatic activities in 1993. 

The newly appointed ambassadors met President Margvelashvili at the President’s Avlabari residence and discussed the challenges facing Georgia and the wider region, as well as their views of the future and activities in diplomacy.
