Georgia appoints new ambassadors to six countries

Georgia has appointed six new ambassadors to represent the country in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Brazil, Australia and Malaysia.

New ambassadors will take over their positions once the service term of their predecessors comes to an end.

Georgia’s new ambassadors are:

Ukraine: Gela Dumbadze was Georgia’s State Minister for Diaspora Issues in 2014-2016. From 2017 he has been the Ambassador at Large at the Foreign Ministry. Dumbadze will take over the position on June 15.

Poland: Ilia Darchiashvili was the First Deputy Minister of Georgia’s Regional Development and Infrastructure in 2015-2016. From 2016 he has been an Ambassador at Large at the Foreign Ministry. Darchiashvili will take over the position on June 15.

Romania: Nikoloz Nikolozishvili has been Georgia’s ambassador to Poland since 2011. In 2006-2011 he served as ambassador to Slovenia and in 1998-2004 as ambassador to Armenia. Nikolozishvili will take over the position on June 15.

Brazil: Davit Solomonia has held different positions at the Foreign Ministry and in Georgia’s foreign diplomatic representations since 1995. Up till recently he was the Director of Foreign Ministry’s Euro Integration Department. In 2015 he received the diplomatic title of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary. Solomonia will take over the position on June 1.

Australia: Giorgi Dolidze has been working at the Foreign Ministry since 1997. From 2011 Dolidze has been leading Foreign Ministry’s Security Policy and Euro-Atlantic Integration Department. In 2012 he received the diplomatic title of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary. Dolidze will take over the position on June 1.

Malaysia: Nikoloz Apkhazava has been Georgia’s Ambassador to Korea since 2012. In 2012 he received the diplomatic title of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary. Apkhazava will take over the position on April 1.

The Foreign Ministry announced the names of the new ambassadors on March 10. Approving the candidates, President Giorgi Margvelashvili hosted the forthcoming ambassadors at the Presidential Palace today.
