Georgian citizens and the country's Prime Minister are sending their wishes into the future via a time capsule that will be reopened in 25 years’ time.

The time capsule was a part of the special online project Drois Ambavi [A Matter of Time], developed within the nationwide celebrations marking Georgia’s 25 years of independence.

The project presented a retrospective of Georgia's recent past and encouraged the public to submit their wishes of what they hope Georgia will be like in a quarter of a century.

In 25 years the next generation from a strong Georgia will open this box,” said Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at today’s ceremony where the time capsule was officially sealed.

The PM said all kind of wishes were collected for the time capsule, written as letters, and they would be kept for 25 years at the Georgian National Youth Palace.

Today we will keep all wishes for 25 years and after 25 years our new generation will open [the time capsule]. Then will see how [successfully] we fulfilled all the wishes of our children and the future generation; how our vision of developed Georgia will meet their vision,” said Kvirikashvili.

The people of Georgia were invited to submit their wishes to a special website, jointly created by the Prime Minister’s Office and experts from Leavingstone digital creative studio.

The website gives users a look at Georgia's social, cultural and political history from the country's first democratic republic in the beginning of the 20th Century until today.

Styled after a classic TV set from the 1990s, the webpage allowed visitors to flick through TV channels and follow archival footage of Georgian Public Broadcaster programs and events that took place in the country over the last century.

Members of the public can also add to the website. Users can upload text, photos or videos describing their vision of a future Georgia. Messages can be submitted in photographic, video or essay format, which are then uploaded and stored.

In 25 years’ time a special function on the website will allow users to search for their submission and see how accurate their predictions were.

Those behind the project said anyone in Georgia or abroad can submit their messages however the topic must be related to Georgia. Submissions can be made from a mobile device or desktop computer before the end of today, May 26.
