Indian filmmakers have come to Georgia and found an exotic location to film their new piece.

A team of Indian film producers are the latest benefactors of the ‘Film in Georgia’ state program, and have recently filmed a new movie in Mestia - one of Georgia’s most scenic areas in the heart of Svaneti region.

A team from Indian production house Mad Studio spent about two weeks in Mestia to film segments for their new film Mother, starring top Indian actors Sridevi Kapoor, Abhimanyu Singh, Akshaye Khanna and Adnan Siddiqui.

The actors and crew were in Mestia from April 22 to May 4.

The Entrepreneurship Development Agency (Enterprise Georgia) announced the filming of the Indian movie was coordinated by Georgian company Film Factory.

A team from Film Factory managed every aspect of the production process, said Enterprise Georgia.

Last month Georgia’s Deputy Economy Minister Ketevan Bochorishvili, together with local cinema industry experts, visited Mumbai, India to encourage Indian film producers to film their next works in Georgia.

Bochorishvili introduced the ‘Film in Georgia’ scheme to major production houses in India so they could learn about the benefits they would receive if they filmed in Georgia.

The ‘Film in Georgia’ program offered international producers a cash rebate of 20-25 percent of their expenses incurred in Georgia, as a way to encourage parties to film here and support the development of the local film industry.

As well as enjoying financial benefits, the Government of Georgia aimed to create a favourable working environment for producers by removing any bureaucratic obstacles that may occur during the production process.
