Indian producers are showing strong interest in filming new Bollywood films in Georgia.
Bollywood cinema representatives visited Georgia this week where they travelled around the country to different regions to explore new locations for filming.
Today the Indian film experts met Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy Ketevan Bochorishvili in Tbilisi and negotiated filming details.
At the meeting the Bollywood cinema representatives expressed their willingness to use Georgia as a shooting location. The meeting was also attended by head of Georgia’s National Tourism Administration Giorgi Chigovadze.
This year Georgia has taken action to encourage international filmmakers to choose Georgia as a place to shoot their films.
Earlier in 2015 the Government of Georgia launched the Film in Georgia initiative to develop the local film industry and get Georgia on the map as an international film location.
The initiative was part of the state program ‘Produce in Georgia’, which supported entrepreneurship and worked to increase the country’s export potential. In July this program added a new component – Film in Georgia – to promote the country’s cinema potential.
Filmmakers who choose to shoot feature films, television movies, drama series, soap operas, animations and documentary films were encouraged to choose Georgia as their filming location and by doing so the Government of Georgia pledged to cover 20 percent of the filming costs.
