A blind Georgia judoka has triumphed at a prestigious European judo tournament for visually impaired athletes.

Zviad Gogochuri won gold at the International Blind Sport Federation (IBSA) European Judo Championship 2015, held on 27 November in Odivelas, Portugal.

Gogochuri defeated tournament favourites in the 90kg category and was crowned European Champion for his impressive win.

He was one of more than 100 of Europe’s top visually impaired judokas, who represented 20 countries at the prestigious competition.

The championship was the final qualification opportunity for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Gogochuri, who was a silver medalist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, also won the World Champion title in Korea this year.
