Georgian athletes are continuing to impress at the 2015 European Games in Baku.
By the tenth day of competition, Georgia had won three silver and four bronze medals and its first record, which came from athlete Bachana Khorava who gained first place in the team competition in the men’s long jump.
More than a hundred Georgian athletes are competing in the inaugural competition across 17 sports from June 12-28. The Georgian athletes are among 6,000 athletes from 50 countries participating in the Games, which will reveal the best athletes across 20 sports.
Yesterday 17-year-old Georgian gymnast Salome Pazhava won a bronze medal in the individual final of the rhythmic gymnastics competition using a ribbon.
She infused her routine with several traditional movements from the Georgian national dance style Rachuli and amazed spectators with her energetic performance.
She received a final score of 17.950 and took 3rd place behind Russian and Azerbaijani competitors.
I have dedicated these performances to the event that happened in Georgia in Tbilisi. We have a lot of injured people and animals. There is a state of disaster in Georgia. This medal and this victory I dedicate to Georgia. I am very happy,” Pazhava said to daily news agency Vestnik Kavkaza.
Meanwhile in the athletics arena, Georgian athlete Khorava took part in the Men's Long Jump competition. He jumped 7.64 metres, which saw him win first place and earn a record at the Baku 2015 competition. His success brought 14 points to the Georgian athletics team.
Meanwhile, mixed-pair archery duo Lasha Pkhakadze and Khatuna Narimanidze won a silver medal in their competition, freestyle wrestler Elizbar Odikadze (96kg) won a silver medal and freestyle wrestler Jumber Kvelashvili (74kg) won a bronze medal at the European Games.
The international competition continue in the capital of Azerbaijan until June 28.
