Judo: Georgia wins Junior European Team Championship

The Georgian team earned the most points at the top competition, including one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

The Georgian youth judo team has won the Junior European Team Championships for the second time in a row.

The Georgian judokas arrived in Bucharest – the host city of the championship - as current European and world champions and at the tournament the Georgians proved their strength once again.

The tournament hosted Under-21 teams from 13 countries. After defeating French, Russian and Ukrainian teams, Georgia gained the European Champion title.

Alongside the team competition, the Individual Championship also took place in Bucharest.

The Georgian team earned the most points at the top competition, including one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

Beka Gviniashvili (-90kg) became the individual European Champion for the second consecutive time. Tornike Nagliashvili (-55kg), Ivane Javakhishvili (-60kg) and Ushangi Margiani (-81kg) won silver medals for their efforts. Levan Gugava (-73kg) took third place and received a bronze medal.

Looking ahead, Georgia is preparing to take part in the Judo Junior Word Championship in Miami, United States, from October 22-26, 2014.
