The election authorities in charge of the 2014 Municipal Elections in Georgia has officially announced the end of the June 29 repeat voting process.
The initial election was held on June 15 but a revote was held today in 14 polling stations in nine districts across Georgia because of unlawful activity on voting day.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) said voting stations closed at 8pm and precinct election commission representatives had already begun to count the votes.
According to the CEC, just over 36 percent of eligible voters (5,112) took part in the repeat vote. Voters were most active at Khoni (76.7%), Tkibuli (47.5%) and Zugdidi (46.1%) election precincts.
"The polling process was overall conducted in a peaceful environment without any major violations and all procedural inaccuracies were addressed on site,” said CEC spokesperson Eka Azarashvili.
The polling process was also assessed by non-governmental organisation Georgian Young Lawyers Association, who also observed the June 15 election and pre-election environment in Georgia.
The organisation said the elections were held in peaceful circumstances without any major violations. The only violations of technical character were reported by the watchdog organisation.
The CEC said the final result of the 2014 Municipal Elections would be published soon on the website: results.cec.gov.ge.
