Georgian President absent from Association Agreement signing ceremony

The Association Agreement with EU will be signed by the Prime Minister of Georgia on June 27.

The President of Georgia will be noticeably absent from an important ceremony marking Georgia’s closer ascension with the European Union (EU).

Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maia Panjikidze, stated the signing ceremony of the Association Agreement (AA) with the EU will be attended by heads of Governments and Presidents of 28 countries, however Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili will not be represented among the Georgian delegation.

"The Georgian delegation is defined with a formula 1+4, which means the head of the delegation – Prime Minister who will sign the Association Agreement – will be accompanied by four Ministers, who are heads of the units involved in the development process of the agreement,” Panjikidze said.

She said the four ministries who were involved in the AA development process were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Justice.

Georgia will sign the AA with the EU next Friday, June 27.
