NATO’s regional envoy Appathurai visits Georgia

NATO Secretary General`s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia region is on a working visit to Georgia.
James Appathurai arrived in Tbilisi early this morning and made his first comments on Facebook.
"Just arrived in Tblisi for consultations with the President, Prime Minister and Ministers on the regional security situation and on our cooperation. As always, admire the good moods of the protocol officers and journalists waiting at 4am,” he wrote.
Appathurai’s meeting with Georgia's Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze was planned to be held at the Ministry at 1pm, after which the sides are scheduled to host a joint press conference.
NATO has praised the Georgian Defence Minister for its strong support, progressing NATO’s anticorruption program and making significant gains in fighting corruption.
NATO Deputy Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia region James Appathurai said in Tbilisi today that he believed the Alliance would discuss whether NATO allies should deploy "defensive assets” in Georgia.
A NATO regional representative is in Tbilisi today to discuss ways to bring Georgia closer to the international Alliance.
