Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday reaffirmed his country’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, highlighting Tbilisi had backed a resolution at the United Nations initiated by the United States, which he claimed was “free from any influence of the deep state”, referring to an alleged covert global network.

The US introduced the resolution at the UN Security Council on Monday, calling for an end to the conflict but avoiding direct criticism of Russia. While the Council passed the resolution, the United Kingdom and France abstained after their proposed amendments were vetoed.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze emphasised Georgia’s “consistent position” on the war.

Over the past three years, we have joined more than 600 documents, including various resolutions and internationally adopted statements, that condemned Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine”, he said.

The official added his Government had aligned with the US-led initiative, describing it as being “free from external influences”.

We joined the resolution prepared by the US, which also supports Ukraine. Specifically, we backed a resolution drafted without any interference from the deep state”, he noted.

Kobakhidze further reiterated Georgia’s support for the US Government’s peace plan, expressing hope for positive outcomes “soon”.

It is important for us to support a resolution aimed at peace rather than prolonging the war”, he added.

The official further claimed his Government had paid “close attention to every detail”, condemning Russia’s “military aggression” against Ukraine and supporting the latter’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
