Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday said meetings at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva this week were an “excellent opportunity” for the Government to “remind the international community once again of challenges facing the country”.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted human rights violations were taking place in the two regions of Georgia occupied by Russia, as confirmed by international court rulings.

The Minister further noted that during the next two days, she would have “important” meetings with officials of international organisations, including the UN Secretary-General and foreign ministers of partner countries.

Effective steps must be taken to ensure the protection of human rights, including in Georgia's occupied territories”, she said.

Botchorishvili stressed that “stability and peace” were “key” factors for Georgia’s progress.
