Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Friday said there was “nothing anti-European” in the country, in response to allegations by the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who on Thursday said his Government was hoping its Georgian counterpart would reverse what he described as an “anti-European trend” introduced by the ruling party.

This is a shameless statement by [Sikorski]. There is nothing anti-European in Georgia. In fact, in many aspects, we have outperformed Poland in establishing European standards”, Volski said.

He further claimed “certain factions” within the European Union were “actively working to change the Government” in Georgia, adding Sikorski’s statement was “part of the agenda”.

He is directly involved in certain processes aimed at forming an antagonistic alliance against Georgia. His wife [Anne Applebaum], who is a board member of a major foundation, specifically the NED [United States-based National Endowment for Democracy], along with other individuals, are focused on creating problems in Georgia that would lead to a change in power”, the official alleged.

Volski further added that Georgia had made “significant progress in key areas” such as “combating corruption, ensuring judicial fairness, and increasing government transparency”, claiming the country was surpassing Poland in the indicators.
