Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday slammed the European Parliament's draft resolution On the Further Deterioration of the Political Situation in Georgia, which is scheduled for a vote on Thursday, as “unfair”, “being worth nothing”.
Speaking to Georgian journalists in Dubai, Kobakhidze noted “to date, the European Parliament has approved five resolutions on Georgia, and all of them were unserious”, adding this was “another, sixth frivolous resolution initiated in the European Parliament”.
This draft resolution, like the previous ones, is worth absolutely nothing, as these resolutions do not reflect the reality [...]. The reality is that Georgia is governed democratically, [and] the opposition is anti-democratic, [...] However, the European Parliament’s resolutions sometimes express support for the radical opposition, radicalism and everything that the new US administration is so evidently criticising today”, the PM said.
The head of the Government added “in view of all this, the European Parliament’s resolution has no value for us, based on its content and unfairness”.
The draft resolution set to be voted on Thursday follows the Georgian opposition’s claims of “rigged” parliamentary elections held last year and ongoing protests in the country against the Government’s decision in late 2024 not to include European Union accession talks in its agenda until 2028.
