Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said he hoped for “less attack” on the state from “European bureaucrats”, as it was “ important” for the “restoration” of relations between the country and the European Union.

In his comments to the press in Dubai, Kobakhidze stressed the “European bureaucrats should not hinder the development of Georgia-EU relations”.

In reference to the recent announcement of United States President Donald Trump on imposing 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports, the PM expressed hope the EU “will focus more on solving its problems and we will see fewer attacks on our statehood, on the Georgian state by European bureaucrats”.

This is a matter of the US and the EU. We are a small country and our mission cannot be to intervene in these relations. [...] The only thing [...] is that the EU has been essentially deprived of its sovereignty all these years, [...] and I think this is a continuation of the US-EU relations-related processes, and the [recent] unfair statements [...] towards Georgia have been a reflection of all this”.

The head of the Government added “in that part where the EU has not ensured sovereignty properly, there are, certainly, many regressive occurrences and injustices”.
