David Songulashvili, the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Georgia, on Wednesday met with Raimund Jehle, the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation in the country, to discuss priorities of their cooperation.
The parties highlighted the European Union’s European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development - an initiative aimed at reducing rural poverty, as well as animal identification and registration, the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The discussions also covered masters of inclusive agriculture, sustainable land management, aquaculture, the livestock and dairy sectors and stimulating youth involvement in them.
Songulashvili extended his gratitude to the FAO for its “effective cooperation over the years”, while also emphasising the importance of projects that support development of agriculture and rural areas with the organisation's assistance.
On his part, Jehle reaffirmed the FAO's commitment to support agriculture and rural development in Georgia.
