Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, on Monday in Abu Dhabi to discuss strengthening cooperation and enhancing trade and economic ties, the Government of Georgia press office said.
During the meeting at the UAE President's residence, Kobakhidze highlighted his Government’s support for Emirati investments in his country, emphasising a “growing interest” from “leading” development and logistics companies.
The discussions covered key projects, including the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s “substantial investment” in the Tbilisi Dry Port project. The initiative, involving the construction of a multimodal inland terminal to facilitate rail and road container shipments in the capital city, is set to complete this year.
The officials also noted “successful conclusion” of negotiations with EMAAR, a “major development company”, that was expected to result in a “multi-billion-dollar investment” in Georgia, the press office noted.
The Georgian delegation further expressed its intention to advance discussions with the Abu Dhabi State Investment Company to strengthen cooperation in strategic logistics and transport initiatives, the press office added.
Regional challenges and a “critical importance of maintaining stability” were also highlighted during the talks, before the Georgian PM extended an official invitation to the President to visit Georgia.
