The American daily newspaper The New York Times published its annual list of 52 Places to Go in 2025, with the western Georgian city of Kutaisi included along with other destinations across the world, the National Tourism Administration said on Friday.
The article highlighted Kutaisi “as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth”, which “is filled with rich history and surrounded by Georgia’s abundant natural beauty”.
Kutaisi is also an ideal jumping-off point for exploring the Caucasus Mountains, the Black Sea coast, cave dwellings and nearby castles and villages”, the article reads.
Describing the city, the author also emphasised that visitors “could easily stick to the city itself, touring the historical centre and its Green Bazaar, along with its many cafes, bars, restaurants and ancient churches”.
It also added “a new interactive digital museum, housed in a former royal residence, that highlights its 3,500-year history” would open in Kutaisi early this year, and “a new cultural centre will host folk evenings that feature traditional Georgian dancing and polyphonic singing”.
