Paweł Herczyński, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, on Tuesday highlighted a “pivotal” role non-governmental organisations played in “ensuring the values” he said were shared between the EU and Georgia, in his message over World NGO Day.

Herczyński noted the role NGOs performed in monitoring governments was an “essential” element of any democracy.

NGOs often provide vital social services, particularly to vulnerable communities. Georgia benefits from a vibrant civil society. NGOs make valuable contributions to Georgia’s EU integration”, he said.

“They serve as a vital bridge between citizens and political leaders. They amplify the voices that might otherwise go unheard”, the official continued.

The diplomat further reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to support the work of NGOs in Georgia and worldwide.
