For the first time in world history the National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Thursday sent a digital copy of a painting ‘Roman Spring’ by the Georgian artist Bruno Vepkhvadze to the Moon.
Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lunar lander, named Odysseus, lifted off on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and is scheduled to land on the Moon on February 22.

In an interview with the Imedi TV channel, Vepkhvadze said the painting was chosen by NASA after it won Third Place Still Life at the 12th International Art Renewal Centre.
‘Roman Spring’ was sold at Sotheby's auction for $30,000 in 2023, after it was exhibited at the Museum of European Modern Art in Barcelona, Spain, the Salmagundi Club in New York City, as well as many other venues.

Vepkhvadze was born in Tbilisi in the family of the artist Giovanni Vepkhvadze and belongs to the 4th generation of artists in this family. The Sotheby’s said Bruno Vepkhvadze was “most well-known for his intricate and vivacious still-lifes”.
