The “successful cooperation” between Georgia and the United States was discussed in a meeting between the Georgian Culture and Sport Minister Thea Tsulukiani and Robin Dunnigan, the US Ambassador to the country, the Ministry said on Thursday.

The meeting also highlighted the possibilities of developing existing cooperation in culture and sports, projects and programmes implemented within the multi-year partnership for protection of cultural heritage monuments, territories, museums and reserves, as well as museum management development and the possibilities of its expansion.

Tsulukiani extended her “heartfelt gratitude” to Dunnigan for the support and successful joint projects such as financing the conservation and restoration works of storage spaces, items and artefacts kept in the 19th century Dadiani Palace in the country’s west.

The officials also emphasised the importance of “proper presentation” of Georgian cinematography by the country’s National Film Centre in the US and in European structures, including Eurimages - a cultural support fund of the Council of Europe.

The Minister expressed her “readiness” to further strengthen relations and “long-term friendship” between the countries, and noted her Government would continue its “successful progress” on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.

On her part, Dunnigan confirmed the desire for “fruitful cooperation” on behalf of the US and congratulated Georgia on obtaining the European Union membership candidate status in December.
