Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday claimed if the United States was “deoligarchised” and “cleansed of informal influences and the deep state”, his Government’s relations with the US and the European Union would “go in a very good direction”.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze noted that current relations with the EU and US were “at a completely undesirable level”.
We request a reboot [of the relations]. We are at an undesirable level, but we have optimistic expectations, including those related to changes in the United States, [where] the inauguration of the President-elect Donald Trump will take place on January 20, and, with a very high probability, the war in Ukraine will end under the leadership of President Trump”, the PM claimed.
“The [wider] region [affected by the conflict] will calm down, and this will also affect Georgia. In addition, Donald Trump has noted that he intends to fight the deep state, and the main problem in our relations was precisely these informal, oligarchic influences. If the United States is deoligarchised, cleansed of informal influences, and cleansed of the deep state, our relations with the United States will go in a very good direction, and this will directly affect Georgia-European Union relations”, he concluded.
Kobakhidze previously on Sunday said if Trump “frees the United States from the deep state”, the development would “improve relations” between the two countries.
