Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday claimed if the United States President-elect Donald Trump could manage to “completely eradicate informal influences in the US bureaucracy”, the “pressure on Georgia” would be “lifted from any direction”.
Mdinaradze noted that Trump and his incoming administration were often mentioning “the deep state”, in reference to “informal influences embedded in bureaucracy”.
He further added that Georgia's “positioning” would depend on the events that would unfold after Trump's inauguration, scheduled for January 20, and on the extent to which Trump would be able to “fulfil his promises”.
First, [the question is] to what extent he will be able to influence the war [in Ukraine] to end. In this case, interest in turning Georgia into a second front would naturally disappear”, he claimed.
“Second, how he will defeat these informal influences in the US bureaucracy. If he can completely eradicate and defeat them, then the pressure on us from any direction will be lifted. If, unfortunately, this does not happen, then, naturally, this turbulence will continue”, Mdinaradze said.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday said if Trump “frees the United States from the deep state”, the development would “improve relations” between the two countries.
