Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Thursday claimed the domestic “radical” opposition was “fighting against” the country’s European integration.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili called on “everyone to respect the will of the Georgian people”.
“If anyone in Georgia is fighting against European integration and is hostile to these processes, it is primarily the radical opposition. This has been happening for years and is not something new”, the Parliament official alleged.
Of course, individual countries will raise issues that are unacceptable to the Georgian people, but these issues are not destined to continue, we already know this very well. I call on everyone to respect and obey the will of the Georgian people. What the will of the Georgian people is, this became clear on October 26 [in the parliamentary elections]”, he concluded.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday claimed “the ball is in the European Union’s court” on the country’s integration and called on the bloc to open accession talks.
