Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to the country’s Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and law enforcement for “American- and European-standard handling” of ongoing protests against the Government’s decision last week to delay European Union accession negotiations until 2028.
Kobakhidze summarised the past five days of protests, and noted while there had been “unfortunate incidents over the first two days”, law enforcement officers had “conducted relevant actions in the following days without any incidents”.
“On one side were violent groups operating in a non-European manner, and on the other side were European and above-European police, Which is very much appreciated”, he said.
The PM also expressed regret for injuries sustained by police officers, protesters, and reporters during the rallies.
The protests have resulted in 23 protesters and three law enforcement being injured between Monday and Tuesday.
