Several educational institutions in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and other regions have suspended classes in protest of the Government’s decision last week to delay European Union accession negotiations until 2028.
Komarov School and St. Ilia the Righteous School in Tbilisi are among the schools that have suspended classes, where both teachers and students are involved in the protests.
The Newton Free School, the Green School, and Givi Zaldastanishvili American School have also followed suit, with their administrations citing a “commitment to freedom of expression” and the “future of students”.
The UG School and the University of Georgia have suspended their educational processes as well, joining the wave of protests.
Students from various schools, including the Tbilisi Cadet School No. 52, the Zugdidi Public School No. 5 in western Georgia, the Georgian-French School, and Andria Razmadze Public School No. 41, also walked out of classes in solidarity on Monday.
Students from the cities and towns of Poti, Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri in western Georgia and Akhaltsikhe from the eastern part of the country are also engaged in strikes.
