Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Parliament's European Integration Committee who on Monday was nominated for the post of the country’s Foreign Minister by  Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, said implementing foreign policy  required “extraordinary courage and, at the same time, caution”.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted it was a “great responsibility” for her to be nominated to lead the country’s foreign policy, “especially when we see how much external factors influence the daily life of our country”.

Today, implementing foreign policy requires special courage and, at the same time, caution. It is a great responsibility for me to lead the foreign policy, especially when we see how much external factors influence the daily life of our country, the internal politics of our country, and how our country's internal affairs are used in the foreign arena”, the official said.

She further thanked Kobakhidze and the ruling Georgian Dream party for the confidence in the nomination and noted her return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was “like returning home”.

She added  “protecting the country’s interests” had “never been easy”,   “every day and every minute of my life will be dedicated to ensuring that our country's national interests and constitutional goals are protected to the greatest extent possible in the international arena”.
