The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Sunday called on the organisers and participants of the planned rally in the country’s capital Tbilisi against the results of the general elections held last month not to “exceed the limits established” by the Georgian Law on Assembly and Manifestation and to “refrain from unlawful actions”.
The Statement also said “the police will take all appropriate legal measures to foil illegal activities”, as the Georgian legislation defined the “legal framework and scope” of holding demonstrations so as “to protect public safety and ensure the proper functioning” of various organisations.
The Ministry also added the domestic opposition party leaders “through the media and social networks” were “spreading information” that the purpose of the rally was to disrupt the first session of the newly elected Parliament on Monday, emphasising the Georgian “legislation directly prohibits the blocking of a strategic facility of special importance”, which was a punishable action under the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The body also added the Resolution of the Government of Georgia of October 23, 2024 defined the list of objects of “strategic special importance”, among which were the buildings of the Parliament of Georgia and the Government Administration.
