Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday criticised President Salome Zourabichvili’s lawsuit that is challenging the results of October general elections, accusing her of attempting to “harm the country’s image”.
Speaking to the press following the President’s official submission of the lawsuit to the Constitutional Court earlier during the day, Kaladze alleged her actions had been driven by “self-interest rather than concern for Georgia's future”.
She has no interest in Georgia’s fate or what happens in the country”, the official claimed, dismissing the lawsuit as “baseless” and “harmful to Georgia’s reputation”.
Kaladze also condemned the lawsuit, which alleges violations of the constitutional principles of secrecy and universality of the vote, for “lacking evidence”.
Neither the President nor the opposition have substantiated their claims of electoral fraud”, he said, adding “if the elections were falsified as they claim, let them present even a single piece of evidence. None exists. These are speculative and deceitful statements, nothing more”.
The Secretary General further accused Zourabichvili of acting under foreign influence, labelling her actions as part of a “broader campaign to tarnish the country’s image”.
Kaladze further described her as an “agent of foreign patrons” and called domestic opposition groups “traitors” working to “destabilise Georgia”.
The official also dismissed concerns that the lawsuit could disrupt parliamentary processes, asserting it would not impact the Government’s approval by the legislative body later this month.
