Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday expressed confidence the opposition parties currently boycotting the results of last month’s parliamentary elections would “eventually have to enter the Parliament”.
Kobakhidze claimed the opposition groups, the United National Movement and Ahali parties had submitted an appeal to the Central Election Commission for the abolition of party lists “in violation of the law”.
He noted the opposition’s statements made last week that they would not accept their legislative mandates were “illegitimate”.
The election administration on Tuesday said the electoral legislation did not provide for the cancellation of the registration of candidates on party lists before the recognition of the authority of newly elected MPs, either through a party request or an individual application.
