Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday thanked the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II for congratulating the ruling Georgian Dream party on the victory of last month’s parliamentary elections.
“I would like to express the deepest gratitude on behalf of our political team to His Holiness for congratulations”, Kobakhidze said.
The PM highlighted the importance of “the mutual cooperation between the state and the church, taking great care of it” and stressed “each message present in the [Catholicos Patriarch’s] statement is very noteworthy for us and naturally, we will act accordingly”.
The Catholicos Patriarch’s congratulatory statement was made on Saturday after the Central Election Commission published a summary protocol of the elections earlier in the day, granting the GD party the majority of seats in the next Parliament.
