Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani on Saturday condemned a recent incident that had occurred during the meeting at the Central Election Commission earlier in the day, held for summarising the results of last month’s parliamentary elections, saying it was “inconceivable” for him “anyone could approve of it”.
In his comments over the incident in which Davit Kirtadze, a member of the United National Movement opposition party, spilled an unidentified liquid on Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the CEC, Ioseliani noted “we evaluate the fact with strong disapproval” and “any action directed against an individual is unacceptable and morally indefensible for me”.
“In my view, a person who performs his duties should be allowed to carry them out consistently within the law. Such attitude, destructiveness obstruct all this”, the Public defender added.
The Georgian Interior Ministry on Saturday launched an investigation into the incident on a charge of causing less serious body injury to health on purpose.
