Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed his confidence that the relations with the European Union and the United States would be “rebooted” as soon as the ongoing war in Ukraine ended.

In his interview with the domestic PosTV channel, he reviewed the current state of relations with the US and EU, emphasising the Government’s commitment to “enhancing relations” with the international partners and added “we will do everything to improve these relations”.

In response to a question regarding the US presidential elections, the Head of the Government noted “it doesn't matter who will be in the American administration”, as the “rebooting of relations will be ensured”.

It will not be our [the Georgian Government’s] job to interfere in the internal politics of another country, unlike other countries that actively interfere in our internal political life. [...] the American people will make their own choice”, he added.

Kobakhidze also claimed an alleged “pressure” on the country and his Government would be “lifted” with the end of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

As for the possible victory of [Donald] Trump [the Republican Party nominee] and [Kamala] Harris [the Democratic party nominee], we think that if Trump wins, the war in Ukraine will end sooner, [and] if Harris wins, it will last a few more months”, the PM said.

“I think that either way, the war  [in Ukraine] will definitely end next year”, he concluded.
