Georgian Infrastructure Minister emphasises country’s strategic role in global connectivity at Saudi conference

Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze highlighted the country’s “unique” geographic position in fostering global connectivity, particularly through the Middle Corridor logistics route connecting Central Asia and China, at the Road Safety and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry said on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Karseladze provided updates on development of the international road network in Georgia, revealing 367 km of corridors were currently operational and adding new highways were being constructed in line with road safety standards.

During his speech, the Minister addressed the potential of leveraging innovative engineering solutions, smart technologies, and artificial intelligence to enhance road safety measures.

Leveraging modern technologies and innovative engineering solutions is crucial for road safety and sustainable development. By incorporating tools like artificial intelligence and smart information management systems, we can create significantly more efficient infrastructures”, Karseladze said

We have shared key updates on the advancement of road infrastructure in Georgia. By exchanging successful experiences, we can integrate contemporary solutions into our reality, enabling us to develop projects with even greater effectiveness”, he added.

The Conference, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services of Saudi Arabia, gathered sector ministers from Cyprus, Kuwait, Nepal, and the Maldives, alongside officials from the International Road Federation and professionals from technological universities in the United States, Europe  and beyond.

Held between Sunday and Monday, the conference served as a platform for discussing contemporary strategies for urban transport systems and inclusive safety management.
