Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday criticised domestic opposition groups for their “inability to adapt to their electoral defeat” in Saturday’s parliamentary vote, claiming they were “continuing to fight against the Constitutional order” with  support of unspecified domestic non-governmental organisations.

Responding to the plans of opposition parties and coalitions that overcame the five percent threshold in the elections to rally against the results in central Tbilisi later on Monday, the PM pledged their attempts would be “useless”.

Once again what happens in every election is repeated. The opposition cannot adapt to the electoral defeat, and with them stand those NGOs who have been fighting for the non-transparency of their own finances for all these years, and we can see, in reality, what was the reason for all this”, Kobakhidze said during a Government meeting.

The official further stressed “despite the opposition's efforts, the state stands in its place and no one can shake the Constitutional order in this country”.

The final figures from Georgia's Central Election Commission indicate the ruling Georgian Dream party has secured 53.9 percent of the vote in the elections, while four opposition parties and alliances have also gained seats in the 11th convocation of Parliament.

However, the opposition parties have alleged the Government has “rigged” the vote and announced they would not enter the Parliament.
