Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the Government’s “ambitious” goal was to ensure the country was ranked among the “top three European nations” for the least amount of corruption.

Kobakhidze highlighted his “personal efforts” for “important decisions” aimed at addressing the issue.

I have personally made several important decisions to prevent corruption since the new Government was formed. Since I spoke at a Parliament session when the Government was approved [in February], we have had an ambitious goal - we aim to be among the top three European countries with the lowest level of corruption”, he said.

Concrete steps will continue to be taken in this direction. We have an ambitious goal, and we are committed to achieving it”, the Government head added.

He also claimed the non-governmental sector was influenced by “massive corruption” and alleged NGOs “do not want to disclose their finances”.
