The security environment in Georgia and the South Caucasus region, and challenges related to the Russian occupation were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and Pia Kauma, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, on the sidelines of an OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Dublin.

The meeting focused on Georgia’s upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26, the electoral environment, as well as the existing legal framework and media environment, the legislative body said.

 

Samkharadze highlighted the Government’s “interest in ensuring free elections” and called on “all relevant international actors” to observe the elections and to assess the election process “objectively”.

He also informed Kauma about the country’s “progress in various directions”.
