Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said Georgia and China were sharing a “friendship rooted in mutual respect” and collaboration, in his message over the 75th anniversary of the formation of the People's Republic of China.

In his address at an event dedicated to the National Day of the PRC, Papuashvili noted the date was a “truly historic” milestone for China as “one of the most important countries in the international community” and a “great friend and strategic partner” of Georgia.

This day marks not only the foundation of the new Republic and the start of a new era for China, but also serves as a reminder of the rich history, vibrant culture, and extraordinary achievements of the Chinese people. Over the last few decades, China has made giant strides in every direction of life, turned into a leading actor in international politics, whose contribution to global development and cooperation is truly remarkable”, the Speaker said.

He further noted that over the past few decades China had made “significant” strides in all areas, becoming a leading country in international politics and making “substantial” contributions to global development and cooperation.

“Our countries adhere to the foundational principles of international law, such as recognition of independence, territorial integrity, and non-intervention, which are bedrocks of international peace and security”, he continued.

Georgia and China share a friendship rooted in mutual respect and collaboration. Our nations have cultivated strong ties in trade, culture, and diplomacy, and it is these strong and diverse bonds that allow us to develop and cooperate in the increasingly interconnected world”, Papuashvili noted.

He further added that bilateral relations between the two countries had been elevated to the level of strategic partnership that would further enhance ties in politics, economy and culture, as well as promote “more active” cooperation on global peace and stability issues.
