Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili met Philemon Yang, the President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss “successful cooperation” within the organisation, the Foreign office said on Saturday.
At the meeting held on the sidelines of the General Assembly, the parties reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to supporting the organisation's priorities, which imply the protection of values and principles of the UN Charter, ensuring “peace, prosperity and sustainable development”.
The officials highlighted the current situation in Georgia's Russian-occupied regions, as well as the regional security environment and the need for long-term peace and prosperity, also emphasising the importance of supporting Georgia's resolution on internally displaced persons at the UN Assembly in June.
Darchiashvili expressed his gratitude to the President for the “continued support” of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, wishing him success in his work. The top Georgian diplomat also invited Yang to the country.
