The Georgian National Tourism Administration on Wednesday said international media outlets, including Euronews Travel, Forbes, Bloomberg Travel, Conde Nast, Le Monde, Prestige Communication and Arab News, were visiting the country to cover the annual World Tourism Day, set to be held on Friday in the capital city of Tbilisi.

Maia Omiadze, the Head of the Administration, said the media would visit “important” tourist destinations, and showcase the potential of Georgian tourism to the world, reaching “millions” of viewers, readers, and online users.

Euronews travel journalist Charlotte Elizabeth Limb, on her inaugural visit to the country, noted her impressions with the “blend of architecture, culture, and culinary delights” in Tbilisi. She also emphasised archaeological artefacts and gold exhibits in Georgian museums and recommended travel to the country.

Georgia has the potential to attract a new influx of tourists from Europe. I am confident many more people will be interested, and Georgia will become a future destination. Against the backdrop of current events in the [wider] region, travelling to Georgia is exceptionally attractive now”, Limb said.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg travel and Conde Nast journalist Lebawit Lily Girma shared her “pleasant surprise” in visiting Georgia.

This country is quite different from Western Europe. The aura of "underground" can be felt in the capital. Georgia is distinguished by such historical elements that can be felt immediately after arrival. In addition, I have heard a lot about the wine-growing regions, and I am glad that I will have the opportunity to see and get to know them on the spot”, Girma said.

Following their visit to the capital, the travel media will explore Tsinandali and Telavi in the eastern winemaking region of Kakheti and Mukhrani in the eastern region of Kartli. They will visit wine cellars, wine museums, and participate in a tasting of Georgian wine and dishes, the Administration said.

This year's World Tourism Day event in Georgia, themed Tourism and Peace, marks the first time the country is hosting the event, which is run under the auspices of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
