Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the Parliament, on Tuesday claimed President Salome Zourabichvili was a “part of the domestic radical opposition” and “embodying anti-democratic processes” in the country.

Ionatamishvili’s comment came after Zourabichvili on Monday said a “technical Government” of “professionals should be formed” in the country in consultation with political parties, but “not from politicians appointed by them”.

Any discussion of some sort of artificial charters and technical Government is an admission that the radical opposition is failing miserably”, Ionatamishvili claimed in reference to the charter promoted by Zourabichvili for uniting opposition parties ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.

“This also shows that these people are trying to directly undermine democracy, but they will find that they will have historically low support and are disappearing from the historical field altogether”, he alleged.

The lawmaker also said Zourabichvili was violating the country’s Constitution “every day”, adding “this person goes against the state, because her activities are completely politicised”.
