Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday emphasised the “special role” of the Intelligence Service in “safeguarding the country's security and fulfilling national duties”, highlighting its development as an institution “of the highest international standards”.

Congratulating employees of the Service on their professional day, Kobakhidze praised their “faithful” service to the mission of “being the first to gather information about threats and challenges” and help the Government make informed policy decisions in security.

In today's rapidly changing environment, with historical regions of Georgia still occupied, a large-scale war ongoing in the heart of Europe, increasing tensions in the Middle East, and our centuries-old national values are under threat, it is critically important for the Georgian state to ensure peace, sustainable, long-term democratic and economic development, as well as the safety and welfare of our citizens”, he said.

The Prime Minister noted the “dream of each of us” was to “unite Georgia and become a worthy” member of the European family. He also thanked employees of the Service for their “loyal service, patriotism, and professionalism”.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and the Head of the Service Irakli Beraia also congratulated employees on their dare, with the Government Administration saying 10 employees were awarded at the event.
