Russian occupation forces illegally detained two Georgian citizens adjacent to the village of Mejvriskhevi in central Georgia’s Gori municipality, near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, the country’s State Security Service said on Tuesday.
The state body noted it had activated the hotline operated for information exchange on developments along the occupation line, and informed the European Union Monitoring Mission and Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions - a platform for facilitating talks on the consequences of the 2008 war between the two states - about the incident.
The SSS also pointed out the Russian occupation forces were responsible for “all destructive actions” committed on the occupied territories of the country, as well as along the occupation line.
The body added that “all existing mechanisms” had been activated to ensure the release of the illegally detained citizens “as soon as possible”.
