Georgia’s Black Sea city Batumi hosts Startup Summit, World Cup regional competition

The Georgian Startup Summit and Startup World Cup regional competition took place in the Black Sea city of Batumi, Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency said on Saturday.

The tech agency noted the goal of the event was to support and promote the development of the startup ecosystem in Georgia, adding that during the two-day summit, international experts had been joined by particular Georgian startups and angel investors, with the opportunity to form essential and significant connections. 

This year’s startup contest has been won by Telagri, a startup company that connects farmers and specialists to share experiences, the founders of which will travel to Silicon Valley, USA, in October to represent Georgia in the Startup World Cup and compete for a $1 million investment prize, the GITA said.

The Georgian competition was organised by Startup Connect, in partnership with the GITA,  the Bank of Georgia Business, the Batumi City Hall, the Mayors for Economic Growth, and the United Nations Development Programme.
