Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Thursday assured the public the selection process of the private partner for the Anaklia port project in the country’s north-west was being conducted with “maximum responsibility”.

The Minister said it could take “several more weeks to finalise the dialogue” and ensure proposals were aligned with tender requirements for the major infrastructural initiative, to be followed with an announcement of the winning company and signing of a cooperation agreement.

He also emphasised the ongoing dialogue with “strategic partners” and his direct involvement in the process.

We also have another company in the consortium - China Harbor Investment, along with several subcontractors. Additionally, we are considering the engagement of several important and highly reputable entities, including the Chinese international shipping line”, Davitashvili said.

Overall, it will be a complex ecosystem where many partners in the consortium collaborate with the state to ensure the highest quality development of this port, taking into account Georgia’s strategic and commercial interests”, he added.

The Minister also provided updates on the marine works in Anaklia, stating an international engineering company was currently examining details, with the process expected to take “one or two weeks”. He stressed the intensive efforts were being made to achieve “quality results in all aspects of the project”.
