The National Bank of Georgia on Monday said it would “strengthen” its cooperation with central banks of European Union member states, following its participation in a working group on international cooperation within the European System of Central Banks.

Giorgi Edilashvili, the Head of the body’s International Relations Department, presented “various technical assistance projects” in cooperation with international organisations at the meeting.

We had a very productive meeting, during which we thoroughly discussed future cooperation with the central banks of EU member states. It was agreed that we will continue our efforts in various areas to implement new projects”, he said following the gathering.

Last week the National Bank hosted Peter Kažimír, the Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, to discuss Georgia’s “stable” macroeconomic environment and structural reforms implemented by the NBG.

Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the Bank, said Slovakia’s National Bank would support her office, as the central bank of an EU membership candidate country, to approximate itself to requirements of the bloc.
