Archil Talakvadze, the Georgian Parliament's Vice Speaker, on Thursday denounced threats voiced by Gubaz Sanikidze, an MP for the opposition United National Movement party, towards police officers on Wednesday.
Sanikidze threatened law enforcement with dismissal and property seizure under a new government that he said would be formed by the domestic opposition following their victory in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.
Everyone who heard this statement smiled at it. Georgia does not have a single police officer who is afraid of threats of Gubaz Sanikidze. Better for him to come to the Parliament and take part in the sessions, debates and voice his arguments if he has any”, Talakvadze said.
Sanikidze also said the new government would conduct “thorough investigations” into the origins of police officers' properties, with any undocumented assets to be “seized”.
