Georgia’s May inflation reaches 2.4% in EU methodology

The National Statistics Office of Georgia on Monday said domestic inflation for May, calculated using the European Union methodology, had stood at 2.4 percent - 0.4 percent higher than the two percent inflation calculated using the national methodology.

The Office said when breaking down the inflation rates based on the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices methodology, the percentage changes compared to the corresponding period in 2023 were as follows:

  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 1%
  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 4.6%
  • Clothing and shoes: 3.5%
  • Housing, water, electricity, gas and other types of heating: -3.2%
  • Furniture, household items and decorations, home care and repair: -2.9%
  • Health protection: 1.1%
  • Transport: 11.1%
  • Communication: -1.2%
  • Leisure, entertainment and culture: -0.4%
  • Education: 3.5%
  • Hotels, cafés and restaurants: 9.2%
  • Various goods and services: 2.8%

The Office began publishing figures using the EU indicator in 2022.
